Dog training doesn’t need to be an extremely difficult task if you just keep a few basic things in mind.

First, establish who the boss is. Your dog really does want someone to look up to and you have to maintain a confident stance and maintain control.

Second, your voice has to reflect the confidence that you do know what you are doing and must be obeyed.

Third, your training methods must be kept consistent. With a dog, routine is everything. If you don't establish a routine, your dog will and it probably will not be the one you were striving for.

You need to treat your young dog as you would a child. Set strict boundaries and let him know what is permissible and what is not. Your dog knows when you mean business, ease up a bit and they will start to ignore you.

Your dog also tunes into your voice intonation. Sound firm when giving a command and joyful when inviting him for a walk or to play. You will see your own mood reflected in his responses. This is a primary step for you to establish the kind of communication with your dog which will allow you to calm him or set him up for work with a single word.

Keep a certain consistency in your approach with him. Maintain the same voice intonations, gestures and words for expressing dissatisfaction every time. This will help him learn more rapidly.

The more consistent your commands are the better trained your dog will be and the quicker he will respond to your commands. This can literally be a matter of life and death when he starts to run into danger and you command him to stop.

Always remember to praise him for doing well. Dogs are just like humans in that they respond well to praise and affection. Dog collars and leashes are important in training your dog but a genuine love and appreciation for one another is critical.

Is there a law against a dog being in a theater in Indiana?

We went to the movies last night and a little dog ran in. It had a collar and a tag with a phone number. It was a friendly little beagle. Several of us customers and a worker was trying to get the phone number (the doggie was wiggling because he was sweet and excited so it was hard to read the tag). The manager came up and said the dog had to go. The worker explained that it had a tag and she was going to call the owner. He started to freak out and said, "It has to go. It can't stay in here."

Anyway, I asked him if he didn't have an office or utility closet or somewhere he could keep the dog for a few minutes while he called the owner. I told him that if he put the dog outside it would probably get hit by a car. We were in a very busy area.

He said, "Ma'am, by law I can't have a dog in here."

I find it hard to believe that there is any such law. What about guide dogs? I'm writing a letter to the co. so would like to know this beforehand. Search didn't give answer.

When the man picked up the dog he immediately said the dog's leg was broken. How did he know that. He wasn't a vet.
