Has anyone found an effective bark collar for a small dog?
Selecting Dog Training Collars
Selecting from among the several dog training collars offered could be bewildering however it doesn't need to be. In order to pick out the top training collar for your dog, there are some items you have to bear in mind. Training collars are meant to be utilized to teach, control and safeguard your dog. They should never be used as a method of punishment or to harm your dog.
I have a miniature poodle - about 8 pounds with a really skinny neck. He barks in the morning when I leave for work. I have tried a beeping collar, which worked for awhile, and a shock collar (petsmart) which I don't think ever shocked him even when he barked. Please recommend a specific brand and model. I'm sick of buying and returning collars, and I don't want to upset the neighbors anymore! Other suggestions to keep him from barking are appreciated as well. I try to exercise him regularly and distract him with peanut butter treats when I leave.
Choice of the best kind of dog training collar for ones personal training goals is only the initial step. You also must make sure it is the suitable size and that you know the way to use it properly. Even the best collar may not be appropriate if it is not employed correctly.
Varieties of Dog Training Collars
Dog training collars include prong collars, head halters, choke collars, electronic collars. Dog harnesses and ordinary dog collars work fine for their designed purpose, but are not regarded as "training collars" and so are not covered in this article.
Prong collars possess the look of something out of a medieval torture chamber that might be really unpleasant. Used properly, they are pretty humane. Prong dog training collars were to begin with made from metallic prongs linked to each other in chain fashion. Currently they are also available made out of plastic which is favored by many. These collars control the dog by slightly "pinching" the neck when the handler pulls on the lead. If applied over aggressively, they're able to hurt so caution is needed.
Head halters such as the Haiti and Gentle Leader halters look like and function in a fashion much like harnesses used for horses. They operate by guiding the dogs' path. The dogs' body naturally follows the head and a harness does an exceptionally good job of controlling the head. Whilst they might look to be very restrictive, the dog easily becomes accustomed to them. They are particularly effective in handling aggressive dogs.
Choke collars remain widely used and are recommended for use in many 4H dog training programs despite the debate surrounding their use. Used the right way, they are suitable dog training collars, however are easy to misuse. If they are placed on the dog incorrectly, if links come to be twisted or if an excess of pressure is used by the handler, they can, in fact, become instruments of torture. Personally, I discontinued using choke collars years ago and will never go back to them. You will find too many better dog training collars available.
Electronic dog collars are made to give the dog a small shock upon command of the handler. The severeness can be tweaked from a slight buzz or tingle to get the dogs' interest to a more severe jolt. These shouldn't be used on small or timid dogs and only following discussion of your situation with a reputable dog trainer. Shock collars can potentially harm your dog if utilized thoughtlessly.
What ever your individual needs, you will discover the ideal collar from the a wide variety of dog training collars available online. Take a few minutes to search our website and turn your difficult dog into an agreeable, well socialized companion.

debark him..vet procedure…
but a reputable vet won’t do it without a full story…& just because it pisses the neighbors off ain’t gonna cut it.
Remember,
a bark is a means of defense as are claws for a cat…

Please DO NOT debark your dog like someone suggested. That is one of the cruelest things you can do. Training usually does the trick for barking, but it takes time, patience, and consistency. That’s the only way your dog is really going to learn in my opinion. But if you have to use a collar, use the more humane citronella collar…it sprays a scent that dogs don’t like.
